I loved reading this: I feel like well-paced thrillers are my summer jam.
Imagine a boring London suburb with boring roadworks. Now, add some curtain twitching, infidelity, divorce, fear, and sex, and you have this book.
A car has been stopping outside a house in the afternoons in this nondescript suburb, prompting rumours of an affair. But what happens when things turn deadly? Who was deceiving who? Who is to blame?
Written in 1968, alongside a cohesive plot and a believable cast of characters, this book includes some great mystery/thriller elements that are compelling and interesting. I also like the exploration of divorce and betrayal, showcasing how awkward society can be about them – surprisingly insightful. Desire can be deadly.
One word: sultry.
