It Lasts Forever and then It’s Over by Anne De Marcken

So this was a weird one for me! Have you ever read a book you respect and like, but maybe don’t always enjoy so much? I think some of the visceral and philosophical aspects weren’t necessarily for me, but the quality of the writing and the interesting premise kept me going. I could really see what the author was doing, and I respected it.

It’s a very meditative, short, and apocalyptic book about a zombie navigating her new bodily and spiritual reality. The world we know has gone, memories are fading, society is breaking down, and violence and sex are still ruling us. What role can nature play now? What about spirituality?

It’s partly a silent scream, partly a sob.

It’s meditative and meandering, hard to describe or convey.

One word: guttural.
