So Thrilled For You by Holly Bourne

So Thrilled For You by Holly Bourne

This was a fun holiday read.

Arson has erupted at a baby shower. It is a hot summer’s day and everyone and everything is melting, including the fancy cupcakes.

What has happened amongst these women that has pushed someone so far over the edge? How do friendships cope under the stress of babies, infertility, and postpartum mental health?

The central four characters are a tight-knit group of girls who met at university and now their lives are taking them in all sorts of different directions, yet they most routinely come together to celebrate. Can they cope with the stress? The event is like lighting a match…

I really liked the mystery element in the book and the way that it brought in some of the police procedure as well. The split perspective narrative allows you to see the events from different points of view. I also always love a book set over one day.

There are a few things and perspectives in the book that come across as closed-minded. I think some of the clangers add to a sense of conflict and the difficulty that people have when it comes to seeing different perspectives.

One word: frenetic.
