I’ve obviously heard a lot about Muriel Spark before, and weirdly, this is actually my first read! Still got The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie on my tbr pile.
This one was a short read, definitely speaking to the detective-thriller type in me, in the sense that I love a mystery. Hard to read in parts, it’s not actually that violent maybe, but disturbingly psychological. It’s a narrative where you find out quickly that something has gone wrong, and then you’re working backwards.
I think the scenes on the plane are my favourite. The narrative voice filled with paranoia is very compelling, and despite it being a short book, there are surprisingly well fleshed-out characters.
A good, if not slightly puzzling, read!
Love this cover edition btw!
