Oh Iris Murdoch. Her novel A Severed Head took me on a journey!
What starts off as a rather conventional social novel set in London, where its townhouses act like sets for unfolding marital and human drama, descends into ever darker partner swapping and chaos.
There are things that are “off” about the novel, but its energy and Murdoch’s masterful prose carry it through.
I literally remember starting this book and being like this is why she’s a timeless classic author. This is why we still read her novels. It’s like butter.
