Murder at Christmas murder mystery collection ed. Cecily Gayford

Classic crime fiction writers’ stories collected into one festive edition, each story with a slightly different take on the festive murder. The authors featured are the likes of Dorothy L Sayers and Margery Allingham, so it’s very much plumbing the golden age of crime fiction.

I really enjoyed this collection, and it was a great thing to read at Christmas! As with all collections, some stories are going to be better than others. Some were quite conventional, and I found myself liking the few longer ones that had time to build more psychology and atmosphere more than the shorter ones. There’s definitely a few cheesy set-ups here.

Expect jewel thieves, getting snowed in at a castle, and a very harrowing night at a wax figurine museum.

One to read in front of a cosy fire with a cold Baileys or cup of tea.

One word: festive.
