The Hotel Avocado by Bob Mortimer

The Hotel Avocado šŸ„‘ by Bob Mortimer

This is the second book in the series, and I definitely loved this as much as previous one, The Satsuma ComplexšŸŠ

I’m not even usually a big comic writing fan, but I found myself literally laughing out loud with this one. The writing style is really entertaining.

Self proclaimed ā€œshit houseā€ Gary is in trouble with organised crime again (still), and his girlfriend Emily and neighbour Grace are getting mixed up in it all. The story takes us through various capers and unlucky circumstances, with a decent build of intrigue and mystery.

Love the eccentric cast of characters and the changing perspective, especially appreciate the different narrative voices. Gives it a good texture and the small details are the best (like Grace and her pies).

Loved the references to Brighton & Hove, as I have lived there for a pretty eventful year of my life… Nice to recognise streets and places.

I think the ending felt a bit rushed, but I’ll definitely keep reading the series. I think I’m a bit invested now!
