Another audiobook. Can you believe I only did my first audiobook read a few months ago? It’s definitely a nice way to mix things up.
This is a short novella by Ian Rankin and it delivers a punchy and twisty tale of murder inside a luxury apartment block in London.
There’s a really atmospheric setting to this story, maybe added to by the fact that I read it over the holidays. It almost feels like a high-quality TV mini series, narrated by police, set in a gloomy and empty block of flats, with swish interiors and a charismatic cast of characters.
Police procedures and banter give the grizzly details a more homely backdrop. Caricatured residents make it seem like a play.
There’s a twist.
One word: gripping.
